Easter's here. Bring out the Hotcross Buns.

Hotcross buns are a New Zealand favourite. When the bakeries start selling the buns, you know that Easters somewhere around the corner. The crosses on the buns stand for the resurrection of Jesus Christ, a great way of remembering that Jesus died on the cross for our sins. Happy holidays!

Its raining and its pouring.Possibly hailing even. I'm wearing ruthies beret shuddering in my pants and finally blogging. Life has changed a lot since the last post. I'm officially a university student,studying Law, Mass Communications, Psychology and English. Joined 3 student societies..maybe even 4? Someone slap me. Life is going to be crazy busy really soon. I'm now active in Arise and I'm now a Sunday school teacher. Who would've thought? Young Adults aka. Huge is amazing and I'm glad to have positive, encouraging and awesum people surrounding me. I'm a Macbook convert too! That's probably one of the reasons why I have stopped blogging. Because all of my other pictures are on the pc. I promise I'll try to post more often. I have such a backlog of pictures its crazy! I guess I've to be selective. Anyways. I have to get back to my uni readings!

My 19th birthday.

Being 19. It hits you right in the face really. When you were 18, there were perks such as alcohol rahrahrah, so it wasn't that bad really. But once you turn 19, the number totally owns you. I'm old! Yikes. Don't look that old but still it really does suck especially when most of your friends turn 19 later on in the year. 1 more year b4 adulthood strikes. Goodbye teen years! I totally understand how old people feel when they reminisce their youth. Okay, maybe I'm exaagerating a little but you'll understand me once you turn 19. To all you youth out there. Haha. To be honest, I didn't want to celebrate my birthday. I totally wanted it to pass by and forget that it even happened. But I eventually decided to have a little something to celebrate the " official ageing" of me. Nice sweet picnic by the avon in monavale with friends, enjoying each other's company and the food. Lovely. Tabitha's little penang kite was awesum! Was totally obsessed with it as you will see in the pictures.

Milford continued

I know that I've been dragging out this whole "holiday post" thing but as I've explained in the earlier post, I'm finding it hard finding the time in my holiday to do so. I guess enjoying lazing around and chillaxing are my sole priority and blogging has taken a back seat. Uni is starting soon and I'm starting to feel the excitement as my mates are getting really excited about O week and such. It must have rubbed off me somehow. Toga! Toga! Toga! Scull! Scull! Scull!

My car tyre went flat the other day. An interesting experience I must say. And thanks to Xin for coming to my rescue!! Thank U AA man for being soo damn efficient! Haha!

Anyway back to Milford. One word. Enchanting. Everything was just so mythical maybe because you can't help but wonder that such a place even exist! Milford was discovered by accident by English sailors way back and thank God for them! Holidays wouldn't be holidays without random spontaneous events that make a holiday special. And one such random and spontaneous event that certainly cheered everyone on the bus up was the sheep roadblock. Ruth found it so amusing as she has never seen such a sight before. NZ is awesum! Haha! And I just can't stand foreigners who spend a year here and totally diss the country and proclaim to the world(facebook) that they can't wait to flee to austalia. My answer is, GO AHEAD MATE ! We are better off without you! Egotastical Mofo! Where did that ungrateful douche come from? Singapore. What a shame. His huge head probably couldn't handle NZ. Kiwi's would soooo have him for breakfast.

Milford Sounds Day Trip

Milford Sounds was described as the 8th wonder of the world by Sir Ernest Kipling. A must see place in the Fiordlands. And it was not difficult to see why.It was a 12 hour coach ride from Queenstown where we traveled via Te Anau. Just to give you a rough idea of how long the journey was, it was a whopping 550km one way ride. Though by that time we were sick of coach rides, the journey from Te Anau onwards was such a spectacular one. The young coach driver/ commentor gave an in depth commentary of the area and I must say that I've learned so much from that trip.

The last time I visited Milford Sounds was when I was 7 and I could still remember the long and arduous trip there as well as the birch trees that grew at that altitude. Homers tunnel was enchanting.Not forgetting those cheeky Keas (native alpine parrots) that we saw up in the mountains. In the pictures, you would notice some kind of mossy-like substance growing on the birch trees. That's because of the high humidity levels up in the Fiord mountains. The Fiordlands have an annual rainfall of almost 182 days a year which explains the high humidty levels that is experienced in that area. We were there on a rainy day and a spectacle awaited us as we travelled along the sounds! There were many rain-fed waterfalls cascading down the sea-risen mountains apart from the 3 permanent glacier fed waterfalls usually seen in the sounds. We also saw walruses and a bottlenose dolphin. We didn't take pictures in the sounds though because the camera was left on the coach but do not fret! I took videos of our cruise along the Sounds.

More pictures! The mountain in the background from the above picture is called the Remarkables. Its easy to see why it was given that name! And if you think the mountain looked familiar, you are probably right! The Remarkables was filmed in LOTR as the Misty mountains! Go back and watch the film again because I have! Haha. The Queenstown region is down right Lord of the rings territory baby! Ruth and I sat on the skippers canyon jet ride high up in the shotover river as well and it was fantastic! We got such an adrenaline rush from that ride! The ride to the site was breathtaking as the driver took us to the cliffs edge throughout the journey. Some parts of the ride were so scary that the Yanks that came along even talked about death. Morbid bunch of people. We even went past the rivers bed where Arwen rode across with Frodo and said " if you want him. Come and Claim him!" How epic was that?! Picture below was where the scene was shot at.

We even had the best burger ever at FERGBURGER. I can honestly say, I will never look at burgers the same way again. All the other burgers out there are no match at all for the Fergburger. You can only get this in NZ. No where else. Extremely Scrummy and the portions were huge as!

We splurged on the buffet up on the skyline where we had the best views in town.

Queenstown

This was my second trip to Queenstown, it was the first time holidaying without parents for the both of us. Let me just say this, holidaying without your parents is certainly an experience and a very fun one at that! We had to settle our own accommodation, meals, itinerary, budget, transport, the list was endless but I guess it taught us how much we can take care of ourselves. The journey to Queenstown was a very long one and we swear by the end of trip, we became seasoned coach riders. Imagine 12 hours to queenstown and another 12 back to christchurch. Thank God for the scenery though. We passed by the southern alps, went to mt. cook villiage, Lake tekapo, Lake pukaki, cromwell, Geraldine, Ashvegas, Oamaru, Twizel....A wee bit tiring for us but it was well worth the trip. We went to the skyline by the gondolas, took the luge (invented by kiwi's just to put it out there and a hell lot better than the SG luge. The scenery was magnificent!) , met so many people from all over the world...Including the hot luge guys, brazillians, hot blonde singer and the cute fergburger dude. Guys galore! Haha. Will show you more about what we did in the next post!

Not forgetting our awesum accomodoation. I scoured the internet and I came across Mecure Resorts, Queenstown. The hotel was along Lake Wakatipu and we even got Lake side views and Alipine mountain views! Would definitely recommend it to anyone who is heading to Queenstown. Great bar staff as well! Haha.

Sumner beach (18december 08)

Loved all the sweet memories of our trip. Captured it, so that we can relive every moment of it.Thank God for technology I'd say.Summer time can only mean sand, sun, shorts :), bikini's and heaps of fun in any part of the world that experiences the 4 seasons. NZ is no exception. After hibernating indoors for the last couple of months, the sun is finally out and my legs can finally get a healthy dose of much needed sunshine. Its time to slip ,slop and slap Baby! Haha. Unfortunately we didn't do just that. I knew that the UV rays here are killers but instead of slip, slop and slapping on some sunblock, we left our vulnerable skin to the elements. Asian skin like ours have pigments, that would "hopefully" block out some UV rays. That's what we thought. But no.. we were no match for the intense UV rays. Especially me. Sun burn never felt any better. The horror.

Akaroa in doses

Akaroa was our first trip out of chch when ruth came and we brought monsieur Bungie along! Wanted to impress ruth you see. Starting of with Akaroa and then the climax at queenstown. Funny. Ruth was amazed with the sights and sounds of Akaroa. Beautiful peninsula out of chch. I called it the gigantic pimple sticking out just to help ruth understand the geography of the place.Been to Akaroa heaps so I enjoyed seeing the many expressions that Ruth had when we were travelling to Akaroa. Classic.Reminded me of the first time travelling and exploring NZ. Gobsmacked. Do you get all this in little ol' Singapore? Not in a million years. I'm so lucky that I live in NZ. Thank you God!

A friend at youth group asked, do you have any resolutions for the new year? I candidly replied, I will walk my dog every single day for 2009! Ooh yeah. I know it all so well that that is one big promise that is going to be hard not to break. I'm not usually that kind of person that does resolutions, mainly because i think its just a list of false promises. But then again, it really got me thinking, what do I want to achieve for 2009? 2009 is one big year for me because I am writing another chapter of my life, starting university, meeting and making new friends, acquaintances, new experiences......who knows? I sure don't know what to expect, but I'm just going to hand it all to God. If it is one person who knows the world from start to finish and the whole shebang, its got to be him! I'm going to just trust him and ride along the journey that is life.!

The long awaited post has finally arrived. Why oh why do I find it so difficult to post something when I have all the time in the world to myself, free from all the stress of exams and school. And whilst in the midst of exams and stress, I find every single opportunity to post pictures and blog. Funny that? Anyways, its lucky enough that I remembered that such a blog does exist and that is why I am going to present to you in a series of posts, the long awaited visit from my bff, ruthie, all the way from Singapore to good ol' Aotearoa. The trip was planned months in advance and I've been playing out our adventures to-be in my head for the longest of times. And finally, Ruth arrived in Christchurch. It took her a while to realise that she was no longer in Singapore. We both agreed that it was rather surreal that we were both finally together in NZ and who knew what stood ahead in our adventures around the south island. I really wanted her experience in NZ to be a great one, cramming as many of my experiences in NZ in that short span of 3 weeks so that she could experience NZ the way I've experienced it, through the eyes of a local. Hey all! Happy New Year!
Just came back from celebrating the new years at cathedral square. Sorry for the lack of updates these past few weeks! Have been having a blast with my bestie Ruth, who came all the way down from Singapore for a holiday. Drank a jug of tui earlier. One mighty task that would not have been possible without the help of friends. Ha ha. Cam, Sam, Ruth and I went out to town for dinner at SOL square and later to Coyotes. Had desert. Too much cheesecake is not a good thing I'll say. Played pool at shooters and danced for a while where Jen and Marco joined in. Would've been a lot more fun dancing if we didn't bring our bags along!

Anyways. I shall update more about my trip with Ruth around the South Island! We had a blast travelling to Queenstown. Don't want her to return to Singapore.! I really hope that she would come back here to study!

It was a day of mixed feelings. Laughter and sadness all rolled into one. It was great to see everyone all dolled up and laughing at the funny performances but there was the underlying tone of sadness to the event. Knowing that all this was going to end. All we had left was to finish up our papers and on seniors sign out day on December the third, we would no longer be Burnside students. I'm a pretty sentimental person and when I've enjoyed my time at a place, I really want to hold on to it and not let it go. Uni is around the corner and I'm not really looking forward to it. Everyone is saying that the freedom we would get would be immense and rahrahrah. I want excitement though, such as venturing into a new city, having new experiences and such. Knowing that I would spend the next 5 years in churchur kind of dulls everything. Auckland uni perhaps? or maybe Victoria. But its almost too late now because I may or may not get an accommodation at any of those places. Ahh. The thought of it just makes my head hurt.

Show Cup day silhouettes

Show cup day is a pretty big deal in NZ and the horse races are held in Christchurch. Our leavers assembly clashed with show cup day, and so the seniors got in on the act and many dressed up in their show cup day gear. New Zealand has spoken and we have a new prime minister , John Key. Aunty Helen is no more. The wave of change has swept over the world and the Kiwi's have caught it. Helen's actually a really good leader with heaps of experience but as they say, politics has its highs and lows and this time around, she has met her low. The "don't trust him" advertising campaign was a bad attempt on " brainwashing" simple minded people.The advert with the lady and the baby only spelt DESPERATION . Negative advertising opposed to positive?Move over labour. Just love observing the marketing and branding strategies of the different parties. The greens were great with their "vote for me" campaign that appealed to people emotionally.http://www.greens.org.nz/

I love the fact that I can vote and I have the freedom of speech to actually talk about this. Democracy at its best.

Jinxed!
Today was just one of those days. You know, that kind of day which doesn't go all that well for you. First of all, my jandals snapped just as I arrived at school. Don't you hate it when that happens? I was thinking of walking about barefoot but then again it was an extremely hot day and my poor feet would totally burn under the hot concrete. Especially that pain in the arse corn on my big toe. Fine. So I drove all the way back home again, got a new pair of jandals and drove back to school.Thank god I can drive!Oh yeah I stepped on fresh spat gum as well.Bummer. And, my camera ran out of batt half way through school and that meant I couldn't take anymore pictures of the last friggin day of high school ever.

Then again, maybe my day wasn't that bad. I passed my human evolution test without getting any questions wrong! Which pretty much made my day. :) Maybe mixing blogging & studying ain't that bad? haha

Human evolution. Fact or bull?
This is me trying to combine studying and blogging. Typical media student ;)This kinda gives me an incentive to study in a way, knowing that people would read all this. Lol. Anyway I've got a test on human evolution tomorrow. Whether I believe in it or not. I'm just doing it for the credits. Honestly speaking. Putting religious beliefs aside.This topic is very interesting( cool bbc documentaries on nude people running about like apes) and regarded as the easiest of all but why on earth are we doing this when most of the "facts" we are getting aren't necessarily verified or proven? Most of which are just men's theories on how we got here. Whatevs. By the end of the ncea exams, I'll probably forget most of the things I've studied and making way for partay's. (Note: mini sponge bob in sponge bob's brain frantically erasing everything) ha ha. As I've said. I'm doing it for the credits.

Anyway. Lets try studying shall we? And no more sidetracking :D You can stop reading right about now.

1)Hominin- The so-called tribe consisting of Homo and several genera of Bipedal Apes.
(note: Bipedal- walking on two rear limbs)
Hominid- Family consisting of human's, apes and orang utans.

2) Human lineage-

Happy Birthday 18th Tabs!Tab's 18th was fun! I didn't attend the mini golf bit though. But it was so great hanging with my mates and we shared lots of laughs. Just 2 weeks ago I pondered as I took a look around my room also known as the "pig sty" by my mum. My sanctuary,my bubble.No matter which country or house I'm in, it never changes. Everything strewn about. Clothes lying all over in a bundled mess. Now I know I'm not the only one. Mess to some but a work of art to others. Beautiful no? Mango Mirror Cheesecake

I baked a mango cheesecake for my Dad on Father's day and he loved it. Can you say SCRUMMY? The trick is to put enough gelatin in the mixture and whipped cream to create the mousse texture.

Bring back Monty

While I was staying at my old place last year, I fell in love with a mysterious cat that constantly hung about our garden. The cat was very affectionate and the whole family loved him. It hung around our place and slept underneath our deck at night. We assumed that the previous owner of the house had left him behind and that was the reason why he kept coming to our house. That's how Monty became our unofficial house pet. Its been 5 months since I've moved out and its been a long time since I've seen Monty. I miss that little bugger. He never stepped beyond the house mat and
always stayed by the door waiting for us to invite him in as if he understood
the concept of respect.

Gravity Camp '08

I just got back from Gravity camp in Hamner and I had a blast. I took quite a number of shots of the camp and I'm pretty sure you'd think it was wicked fun as well after viewing them. I'm also going to feature some of my photographer mates in the next few posts. They also covered the camp and they are really talented people. There was a bit of a mix up on who shot what in the last post so I thought each post dedicated to each photographer would iron out the confusion. The following photo's were taken by moi. So enjoy!

Mhmm..Lamingtons

I baked these quite a while back. They're called L.A.M.I.N.G.T.O.N.S if you haven't yet realised. The kiwis and aussies have been fighting over who first came out with lamingtons. I'm sorry for being biased but the Kiwis did it first just like we did with Pavs! Quit stealing our stuff! Haha. Anyway. Lamingtons are really yummy delights I tell you. Its really simple to make. Its basically a soft sponge coated with jelly and dessicated coconut. Yum. The coating keeps the sponge within moist and yummy. Go google the recipe and try baking it!

Oh ,Paradise .

I was bored one day and so I went to the near by Styx mill reserve and i just fell in love with it. Armed with my video cam and other camera, I poked my nose through the nooks and crannies of the reserve - exploring and enjoying nature. What better place to observe the beauties of nature other than New Zealand. Oh, paradise.

Girls in pearls

Girls in pearls was a get together with all the girlies from elevate for some good ol' deserts at Lonestar restaurant. I had another cocktail event later on that night with ucss and the so that night was incredibly busy for me. And if you do know that you have to get ready for a formal event please do not attempt the 10minute hair and makeup drill like I did. Trust me, I looked horrible that night which explains why I'm not posting any pictures of myself. Ha ha. I've never been to lonestar before and to be honest it resembled a classier kiwi version of Hooters. But a nice place for food nonetheless.
All of us had a great time catching up and if I can recall, I spent most of my time talking to Rachael about camera settings .She's a photography student. Cool huh? We were also introduced to the latest addition to Elevate leaders, Amie. So the night went on with all of us trying to finish our huge plates of deserts and chatting away. We all received a cute little goody bags consisting of a nail file,handmade pearl bracelet,lollies and a lovely butterfly from the leaders which was very sweet of them. Massive Cheesecake that I had.

My first car!

i've finally got a car after getting my restricted license! I got the car two and a half weeks ago but i didn't get the chance to blog about it. My car is a Mitsubishi RVR 4Wd. Its quite old but I'm really enjoying it. Can't wait to go up mt. Hutt with it since its a 4wd. The backseats can even be transformed into a bed. Sweetness! Driving is a blast because its a new found independence and I get to go wherever and whenever I want. So much freedom that I'm almost drowning in it! Parking is a bitch though because the car is slightly on the larger side.I love my mitsy :)

Burnside Yr 13 Formals '08 Finally after a long wait, I bring you the formal pictures. I have been busy lately and I've only just found the time to blog. The formals this year was a bitter sweet one because it clashed with the Arise conference up in Welly and I really wanted to be at two places. However, I decided to attend the formals because, after all, it was the very last one and I really wanted to share the memories with all my mates at Burnside. The year 13 formals are always the highlight of one's years in high school.I didn't take a lot of pictures this year though.I wore a silk Witchery cocktail dress as well as hot wildpair shoes that were almost 5 inches high mind you. Luv em' though. Haha. My hair was disappointing. I went to the award winning Rodney wayne salon to get my hair done but they didn't deliver award winning results. I specified Big long and beync curls but I ended up getting tight and Goldilock esque ' hair.My worst nightmare. Some people really liked it though. Quite a surprise.me. Talitha and esther.
This year, our groupie comprised of two couples, Esther & josh as well as Talitha and Alex and dateless me. I didn't want a date this year. Too little too late I guess. Long story. I don't particularly like slow dancing with someone i don't feel for anyway so I don't mind missing that bit out.
We skipped the afterparty and went to Talitha's place for a girly sleep over. Better have nice good ol' sober fun than attend a drunked forget me not event.
Anyways, it was great fun and I enjoyed myself. More professional photo's coming up sppn once I order them. Enjoy the pictures!

Get Smart Youth Conference 2008
Getsmart 08' was one amazing experience I'd say. Arise ChCh elevate met up with Welly elevators for the first time and they were so much fun to be around with. Its just too bad we didn't get enough time to know them better. Can't wait to see them again at the arise conference which is going to take place real soon on the 14th of August! All of us took a picture with the funky monkey's - a random group of promoters in the city Centre, we didn't know what they were promoting though. We wiped them clean of their funky monkey badges and Greg said that they might even be promoting party pills for all we know. I threw mine away. Haha. We also played the Freeze and charge game in the middle of town and EVERYONE was starring. But it was so much fun! Not forgetting the fun cheers we did whilst queuing up for seats. Rub it up, rub it up , rub it up!

So anyway, back to the conference. If you don't know what getsmart is all about, its basically an amazing Christian youth conference with great international speakers like pst. Reggie Dabbs,pst. Brian Houston, Pst Paul De Jong ,pst. Andy andrews and many more. Getsmart Christchurch and Auckland takes place simultaneously during the school holidays and youth from all over NZ get to get together and praise and worship God. Amazin' stuff I tell you! It was a great personal journey for me during this conference as I have never felt so connected and engaged with Jesus and I truly believe that my relationship with God will continue building and strengthening as I grow. Janine and Andy the founders have announced that they'll be passing down Getsmart to Nadia and clarke from Life church . I expected it to happen because it was getsmarts 10 year anniversary and that Andy and Janine have been moving on to start their own ministries.
There's just so much about this experience that words truly cannot describe it. Only those who attended it can really understand where I'm coming from. Pictures were taken by Cammy.

Welcome to my new neighbourhood

I just moved. To the sunnier side of Christchurch no doubt about it. I'm living up north in Christhurch now, in a nice gated community fitted snugly between a nature reserve, farms and a newly established suburb. I just thought I should put a few pictures up after all I did move and all. Shall put pictures of my newly built crib once the landscaping is done. One thing though, I was dreading the 40-50 minute bus ride I had to endure in order to get to school. And you thought 1 bus ride was enough. But I take two! The time to get to school does look obscenely long but I reckon, we all need a nice bus ride once in a while. Bus rides are like "me time" in a way and I get to reflect on things whilst watching the sunrise and the sheep grazing in the paddocks. In a weeks time, my 50 minute bus rides would substantially decrease as I will be getting my restricted license which mean I get my own car and I get to drive myself around to all you non-kiwi's out there. Yay-yer! A new found independence.How awesum is that? Haha

School has begun again. Term 3 is going to whizz past fast. I really need to get my act together because next term is crunch time. Last week really was the best week ever I'd say. I went to the Getsmart conference and it was indeed wicked fun as predicted. I will talk more about it in my next post. Ciao.

Mono-colour Wednesday
A week of the school holidays have already passed and I have to say, its been one of the most productive holiday's ever. Esther came over to my new place last Sunday for a mini-sleepover. We watched American beauty and went to the country club for some girly spa time. This week has also been really tiring because I went to the 4 day Natcoll holiday course on Video editing and Adobe Illustrator. Saw the last person in the world that I ever wanted to see in the course as well and that was tragic. It was the absolutely most puke-worthy moment ever when I saw that gangsterish baseball cap poking up behind one of the Mac screens. Trust me. It was horrible. But that aside, we had a great time learning how to edit stuff and the best bit was hanging out with aimee during lunch breaks. Catherine's chicken rice.Dumplings! Mhmm. Haha.

This week I'm going to attend the Getsmart conference which is going to be wicked fun and I'm hoping to get some footage for my documentary whilst I'm there. My documentary is going to be about people and their feet and shoes. Its going to be poetic so that adds to the challenge I guess. I'll keep you updated on the progress of it. Dad got me a new sony handy-cam for this project but I have to pay him back half of it for now. I have to say its the best damn investment he's ever made.

Seniors Wacky Week: Careers Day Friday

Wacky week is the one week that every yr 13 senior at Burnside wouldn't want to miss out. Its a week in which each day is themed and everybody dresses up for school . If its one thing Kiwi's love and its not rugby or binge drinking, its got to be dressing up. ha ha. And its incredibly fun turning up in the wackiest stuff for school. I'm starting off with the last day of wacky day because Mr Glamorlicious wanted to see my flight attendant's outfit!
Friday was careers day and people's costumes ranged from scrub doctors and nuns to sponge bob complete with spatula as well as hobo's. I saw a couple of my fellow flight attendants and pilots hanging around school as well. Fun! thats all I've got to say. trixie dear and my neigbour arsenio

Pretty self-explanatory

Okay. I'm back from my long hiatus. Just moved to my newly built house and the internet connection has been a bitch. Lots of stuff happened over the last few weeks and so I'll keep everyone updated over the next week.
Anyway, it snowed in Christchurch and it was so beautiful. If you haven't experienced snow, its really a pity!Somehow,people get really emotional when snow falls for some reason. Time practically stopped that day when it snowed. Everyone seemed to have a smile on their face, children making snowmen.It was painfully joyous really fairy tale like. No kidding. I was practically squealing when I saw the snow falling. Know the snow angel scene in edward scissorhands? It was just exactly like that. Pure magic. Well anyway I took heaps of photo's that day so enjoy them!

Portuguese Sweet bread

I made my very own loaf of Portuguese bread the other day ! The dough used was once again similar to the French brioche dough- a very rich bread with eggs and butter in it. The bread was a little bit on the dry side but it tasted so good on its own. With tangy marmalade spread on the delectable slice of fresh bread, it was like having icing on top of a cake. Brioche bread is great for French toast so I used the remaining loaf of bread to make French toast with caramel Baileys.Bellissimo!

Court Visit with Trixie

Trixie and I went to the Christchurch district court on Thursday to watch some real life court action. I really wanted to learn more about what lawyers do because I don't want to go into something that might not be my my cup of tea- if you get what I mean.

So anyway the visit was really an eye-opener for me. It was quite intimidating entering the court because we were practically surrounded by really dodgy looking people who were waiting to stand on trial along with their families and friends.Most of them stared at Trixie and me-as if they could sniff out innocent law-abiding citizens like us.Okay. Maybe I'm taking a prejudicial stand here but it really was quite intimidating knowing that the grubby man seated next to us may have been charged for drug possession or something. The trials that we viewed ranged from young people breaking their probation, a hard-looking tattooed man who was charged for the possession of cannabis and an Asian guy who broke immigration laws. We missed the trial of a sex-offender in the high court though. It would have been really interesting. Photo-taking wasn't allowed and so I didn't take any pictures of the court.

Some of the people that were charged looked really normal like you and me. Its quite an eye-opener, knowing that our world isn't as clean as you think it is, that anyone can be a bad guy. I might just consider being a criminal lawyer if I do law. Chrislynn-defender of the poor, meek and the weak. Loving the sound of that!

Mhmm.Cinnamon rolls

I baked ooey gooey cinnamon buns just like Bobby's Flays showdown against Joanne Chang's Boston sticky buns. The dough is similar to the french brioche bread.The bottom of the buns are caramelized and have crunchy nuts at the bottom. I added walnuts to the bottom instead of the usual pecans. I'm really liking baking bread opposed to the usual cakes now because of the satisfaction I get from baking them. Especially looking at the reaction from people's faces after serving them my buns or breads. I brought a tin-ful of my cinnamon rolls to czone and everyone LOVED them. Kel and Matt even said they would pay me $10 each for a tin of buns! Could this be the beginning of a new business venture?

Unite! Youth Rally 2008 NZ
Featuring Reggie Dabbs

Last friday was totally rad. My church was hosting this years Unite! Youth Rally and it featured the awesum speaker from the US of A , Mr Reggie Dabbs. I haven't heard him speak live but everyone else who had heard him before were raving on and on about him.Reggie was one helluva livewire that night. He was really good on his saxophone playing Alicia Keys' If I got you and Hallelujah.
So anyway, the turn out for the rally was really good because the whole Aurora centre was booked out. Reggie is a great evangelical preacher who goes about schools in America and the world to talk to young people about our saviour, Jesus Christ. My life story, a Christian local rock band played that night as well and all of us from elevate had fun in the mosh pitt. It was great to see many people having fun and knowing about Jesus in such an environment.Youths all the way from Timaru, Ashburton and lots of places you haven't about came all the way just to listen to him. Lots of people have this stereotypical view of Christians and churches and so with an outreach event such as this one, many had a changed perspective of what Christians and churches were.

Trip to Christchurch Women's Hospital
Otago School of medicine
The school organized a trip to Christchurch Women's Hospital for students who are interested in going into the field of health science. It was a great experience taking a look at the hospital environment and getting information about what health care professionals actually do. It ranged from physiotherapist, mental health nurses, surgeons, radiologists and so on. And sad to say the life a doctor ain't like Grey's anatomy. Dream on! Ha Ha.
Xinny, tabs and I chose to go on the maternity ward tour because based on insider info, we were going to see lots of babies. But to our disappointment, we didn't get to see any of them. Notta. ziltch. Should have gone to the research centre tour instead. Oh well.

Anyway, my confidence in choosing health sciences (medicine) surged after the trip because of the 6th year medicine student I talked to. He was dressed in scrubs. VERY Grey's anatomy-esque. Turned out he was from Burnside as well! Awesumness! And from one Burnsider to another, he told me hints on getting to the right residential hall in Otago, how he succeeded and a whole lot of stuff. Apparently most Burnside students get accepted to St.Margarets Hall for some strange reason, much to the dismay of the St.Andrew boys behind me. They felt that people were biased to Burnside students or something. SWEET! Too bad boys. Ha ha.

Otago offers health science in which I can pursue medicine. Its also the number 1 students destination for a grand ol' time away from home. The liaison' officer came the other day and I'm really attracted to the student life that Otago offers. SCARFIE DAYS!
OR I could go to the university of Canterbury and do law and psychology AND not leave Christchurch.
Send me a sign. I need some direction.

Kate Moss Inspired blazer look

Inspired by Kate Moss' blazer winter look. I tweaked it a little by adding a bit of hippie vintage to the urban look for school today. The cat was a last minute random accessory. He actually made an appearance a while back. We never really knew where he came from but he might have been the previous tenant's cat of some sort. Hey. I just assumed it was a "he" - just as i usually do with any other random animal. I even named him . What was his name again? I'm pretty sure I called him Monty.Yep.That's his name. Monty the cat.
I instructed my little brother to take the pictures for me and I must say the pictures turned out pretty darn swell.

Last term

This picture of trixie and me was taken eons ago last term. And I was eating Esther's lunch. ha ha. We were discussing our plans for our directorial proposal for the Otago Sheilah Winn Shakespeare festival which we didn't get to direct in the end. But yeah the picture reminded me of the sunny and warm weather we got during summer. Ah. The days where we didn't need to pile on layers of clothes in order to stay warm. Man. I could even see the tann line i got from tanning last summer. Togs Togs Togs. UNDIES!! Ahh summer. Wherefore art thou?

Bleu.

I just came back from a short walk to my friends place to get something and I'm telling you its f*cold outside. I wore my new volcom hoodie and pair of track pants out ,the typical kiwi i-don't-give-a-damn-I-can't-be-
bothered-to-dressup outfit. Anyway as I was walking back, i decided to pay a visit to the nearby Waimairi cemetery. Depressing. Well, I'm feeling pretty random again.As usual. Feeling as blue as the weather. Or maybe because I've been under the influence- of Tim Burton's films that is. I think I have been reveling in too many of his films and writing essays about him. Edward Scissorhands has got to be THE best movie EVER.The one movie you can never watch too many times of.God knows how many times I've watched it. Gothic Fantasy is the BOMB. Danny Elfman is THE man to call for O-some music. okay. whatever. Just ignore me.

GUTEN TAG!

I was really itching to bake something on Friday, something to do with bread.The typical loaf of bread bored me and so I decided to try something that I've not attempted before. After scowering the net, in search of inspiration, pretzels popped in my mind and I decided there and then to try to make them.Random I know.But it gives me great satisfaction in trying to bake something pretty adventurous like this and being successful in trying. Well anyway to cut the long story short, the pretzels turned out fantastic and they were all devoured within the next day.I guess all that time spent looking at the ladies making pretzels at Auntie Anne's actually paid off.
Pretzels are a German specialty and so it pleases me to know that somewhere out there in Bavaria, my good friend Morija would be proud to know that I am still keeping the German spirit alive after all that time since she left.Ha ha.
The dough stage of the process before it was boiled and baked.
